Job Summary
Monona Plumbing & Fire Protection is seeking a dedicated Controller to oversee all financial activities.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Monitor key financial metrics and variances, and provide recommendations for improvement.
Develop and manage the company's budgeting and forecasting processes.
Collaborate with senior management to establish financial goals and objectives.
Handle quotes, renewals, claims, and audits with insurance companies and agents as necessary.
Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles and standards.
Review and approve financial transactions, invoices, and purchase orders.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions.
Cooky with external auditors for annual audits and regulatory compliance.
Monitor project costs, budgets, and profitability, providing analysis and recommendations for cost-saving measures.
Collaborate with project managers to review project financials, including job cost reports and labor analysis.
Perform variance analysis to identify deviations from project budgets and implement corrective actions.
Aid in the development and evaluation of pricing strategies for bids and proposals.
Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis for business planning and forecasting.
Aid in evaluating investment opportunities and potential acquisitions.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in financial management.
Supervise and mentor the accounting team and other staff as needed, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Set performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations for team members.
Foster a positive work environment, promoting collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication.
Ensure adequate staffing levels and optimize resource allocation within the department.
Resolve any employee issues, conflicts, or performance concerns in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA certification is a plus).
Proven experience as a Controller or similar role in the construction or mechanical contracting industry.
In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
Proficiency in financial management software (Sage 300 CRE preferred) and advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in managing and leading a team.
Ability to work collaboratively and provide financial guidance to cross-functional teams.
