Controller
About the role
Awesome and its family of companies, including Flickr and SmugMug, are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function across our combined entities. This role offers a unique opportunity to build and lead accounting operations for a portfolio of established digital platforms serving millions of photographers and creators worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and support a team of accounting professionals, building the structure, clarity, and environment for them to do their best work and grow.
- Partner closely with the CFO and Director of Finance to connect operational results to strategic priorities, helping teams across the business understand and act on their financials.
- Dive into the evolution of our financial systems and processes: identify automation opportunities, evaluate tools and integrations, and build toward a more efficient, tech-enabled finance function.
- Cook up coordination with external auditors, tax advisors, and accounting partners for annual reviews, compliance filings, and international obligations including domestic/state and VAT.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; MBA a plus.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3 years in leadership roles.
- CPA preferred.
- Strong command of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting capabilities across complex and evolving business models.
- A mindset focused on systems, automation, and continuous improvement, with a track record of making the accounting function better over time.
- Proven experience managing multi-entity accounting operations and consolidations.
- Hands-on experience implementing, owning, or improving NetSuite or a comparable ERP system.
- Strong process design, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, rigorous attention to detail, high integrity, and dependability.
- Experience leading and developing accounting teams.
- Familiarity with international tax obligations, including VAT and multi-jurisdiction compliance, is a strong plus.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $115,000-$177,500. This position is also remote-friendly, and as such, compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Various factors, such as defined competency leveling and geographic location, will determine the final compensation for this role.
Schedule
This is a remote position, and candidates must be physically located in one of the following states: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. All employees must perform work duties from a Company-approved location. Any change to your remote work location, whether temporary or permanent, requires prior approval from your manager and the People Team.
