Control Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting, operation, maintenance, calibration, adjustment, and installation of all plant instruments and controls, both mechanical and electrical.
• Adjust, repair, calibrate, and install automatic control equipment, including fuel controls and fuel safety systems, with a thorough understanding of production plant operations and control equipment functions.
• Adjust, repair, and calibrate instrumentation such as thermometers, thermocouples, flowmeters, pressure gauges, recorders, and data loggers.
• Apply knowledge of A.C. and D.C. electricity to test, repair, and troubleshoot controls using electrical diagrams and sketches.
• Use test equipment including ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, dead weight testers, Orsat analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Prepare instrumentation and controls for use and instruct/train other control personnel on the job.
• Construct and install special types of instrumentation and controls, including working on or near energized circuits or equipment.
• Install small piping and tubing.
• Collect and prepare fuel samples for testing and conduct fuel surveys as required.
• Conduct, compute, and plot routine tests (e.g., fans, pumps, velocity, oxygen, capacity) and assist in special tests; prepare daily performance sheets.
• Perform all phases of chemical analysis, including collecting samples, analyzing, and applying proper treatment to boiler water, condensate, feedwater, and auxiliary plant systems.
• Familiarize with sampling procedures required for compliance with state and federal permit limitations (SPDES-NPDES).
• Prepare sketches, charts, and graphs.
• Read, interpret plans, drawings, and specifications for assigned work.
• Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Requirements

• Perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric procedures in standard, practical applications.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Successfully complete a control technician screening examination.
• Complete all educational requirements of the Control Technician Training Program.
• Demonstrate satisfactory performance and complete all on-the-job training and related study courses to be eligible for progression increases.
• Capable of passing a Company driving test; valid Driver’s License with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy required.
• Pass Field Assessment.
• Willingness to work overtime as required and participate in the Company's Emergency Restoration Program.
• Participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year-round basis, after an accident, and for reasonable cause.

$38.37 an hour
