Control Room Technician (NIGHTS)

You will be joining Fill & Finish Expansions (FFEx), which is responsible for all major expansion activities within aseptic production, solid dosage forms, finished products, fill & finish warehousing, and QC across all production areas in Product Supply. The area is anchored in Product Supply, Quality & IT, which globally employ approximately 20,000 of Novo Nordisk’s 50,000 employees. FFEx is a newly established and growing area with the responsibility to design, plan, and build all new aseptic filling capacity across Novo Nordisk to serve the needs of millions of patients. We do this by rethinking our production facilities with modern technology, setting the standards for the aseptic production of the future—facilities designed today that we will still be proud of 20 years from now. FF Expansions has a global approach, where you will work with multiple sites and cultures across the world.

About the role

Operate and monitor multiple plant facilities and site support systems from a centralized control center for the facility. Prioritize, communicate, and follow up on system alarms, warning conditions, and abnormal trends. Support automation, controls, and facilities engineers in operational troubleshooting, problem-solving, system improvement, testing, and data trends development. Assist the maintenance team with equipment and systems shutdown, start-up, lockout-tagout (LOTO), and EHS permitting. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external engineering teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for site and automation project execution, as required.
• Prioritize, communicate, and follow up on alarm and warning conditions and abnormal trends on all applicable systems.
• Review, investigate, and document system or operational anomalies for cause and clearance.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining standards and operational procedures for control room and automation systems.
• Support the installation, commissioning, qualification, and training activities for all site support systems and controls.
• Support consistent operation, maintenance, and response for all control systems (BMS, PCS, Life Safety).
• Support engineers and facilities maintenance personnel for successful plant operations, including troubleshooting and optimization activities.
• Adhere to all quality and environmental regulations within the area of responsibility.
• Drive continuous process improvement using cLEAN® concepts.
• Adhere to all plant safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties.
• Participate in systematic problem-solving efforts.
• Follow all safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties.

Physical Requirements

• Moves equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions.
• Routinely operates and inspects manufacturing equipment using hands.
• Strap and unstrap pallets using hands.
• Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift.
• May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role.
• May require color vision based on role.
• Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder.
• May be required to work at elevated heights.
• Occasionally works around odorous and/or hazardous materials.
• May be required to wear gloves.
• May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site.
• May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role.
• Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection.
• May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license and operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in a technical field from an accredited university required; may consider a High School Diploma (GED) with four (4) years in facilities, utilities, or manufacturing automated systems control and operations.
• Minimum of two (2) years in facilities, utilities, or manufacturing automated systems control and operations required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of facilities/utilities experience in a manufacturing facility preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in the operations, maintenance, and design of cGMP utilities, as well as working in a regulated environment (FDA, cGMP, OSHA) preferred.
• Proficiency in most of the following utility systems: chilled water, plant steam, compressed air, vacuum, wastewater, HVAC, vacuum, water purification, nitrogen storage/distribution, and clean steam required.
• Prior qualification/work experience required in operating plant or facilities via control systems.
• Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with a basic understanding of P&ID, PFD, HVAC, electrical systems, and equipment schematics preferred.
• Understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT, commissioning, and validation protocols preferred.
• Understanding of complicated product documentation and standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts preferred.
• Computer literacy with associated systems preferred.
• Ability to prioritize equipment and system issues based on environmental or safety risk, production impact, and operational need preferred.
• Strong communication skills across multiple organizational levels preferred.
