About the role
The Control Room Operator reports to the Shift Supervisor and operates the systems in the control room. They monitor all system conditions and coordinate all system and operation related activities. The role supports the BEUMER Individual Carrier System (ICS) at Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR).
Responsibilities
- Cookout and handover report during shift changes.
- Maintain contact with the operations staff in the field to inform them of any operational problems that require intervention.
- Liaise with management regarding daily operations.
- Maintain contact with other stakeholders of the BHS to manage the daily problems or questions related to system operation.
- Monitor system performance (system baggage flow).
- Monitor manual encoder operator performance.
- Technical and procedural training to manual encoding operators in performing their duties.
- Elaborate the operation shift report.
- Analyze eventual problems to determine corrective actions possible to prevent their future appearance.
- Carry out other assignments as requested from management or shift supervisors.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of work experience in baggage handling systems and/or automated systems in material handling industries, operations and maintenance.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain airside security clearance.
- Operates in a fast-paced airport setting with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and variable temperatures.
- Requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating shift schedule.
- Frequent walking, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, and standing across large terminal and baggage areas.
- High-Level control (SAC) skills.
- Software documentation and IT network knowledge.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- Team player, personable and a winning attitude.

Pay
The posted hourly rate reflects the compensation the company reasonably expects to offer for this position. Pay Rate: $23.93 per hour.
