About the role
The Control Room Operator (CRO) is the shift lead responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the power plant. Key responsibilities include start-up, operation, shutdown, and securing equipment; troubleshooting and performing basic maintenance; understanding and documenting process variables; and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Start-up, operate, shut down and secure equipment under normal and emergency conditions.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic mechanical skills to assist the facility team with maintenance activities.
- Understand and document process variables and system/component reliability.
- Monitor and respond to process variable feedback to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective power generation.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and develop operating procedures.
- Supervise, coordinate, or assist contractors performing work at the facility.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Experience in power plant operations and/or maintenance
- Basic computer skills, including data entry
- Basic math skills
- Good verbal communications skills
- Cooperative attitude and ability to work without direct supervision
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to work within and ensure adherence to safety practices and procedures
- Commitment to teamwork and knowledge sharing
Qualifications
- Physical capability to work on feet for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and wear PPE including respirators, hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.
- Ability to work in elevated areas, confined spaces, and extreme heat and cold conditions
- Repetitive motion capabilities
- Ability to hear and understand audible alarms and detect changes in noise levels
Skills
- Understanding of process controls and equipment operation
- Ability to perform and ensure the completion of facility water chemistry testing and dosing
- Proficiency in clear communication during process upset situations
- Ability to make decisions affecting plant process
