Control Room Operator

About the role

The DEPCOM is seeking a Control Room Operator to join their team. This role involves monitoring and operating photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems, responding to alarms, and collaborating with maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate PV and energy storage systems from the Operations Center in Scottsdale, AZ.
• Analyze real-time system performance data and identify irregularities, equipment issues, or performance trends.
• Initiate and follow established response plans for alarm conditions, escalating issues as necessary to protect safety, reliability, and production.
• Maintain accurate and detailed operations logs and documentation for reporting, shift turnover, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to understand equipment status, ongoing work, and operational impacts.
• Respond to operating instructions from utilities, balancing authorities, and other grid administrators.
• Operate plant equipment in accordance with established procedures or at the request of maintenance personnel.
• Support safe and efficient operation of power generating facilities by adhering to operational, safety, and compliance requirements.
• Complete a comprehensive 60-day training program on day shift designed to build technical, procedural, and decision-making skills.
• Upon completion of training, complete a period of on-the-job training to prepare for independent work on the night shift.

Requirements

• Experience analyzing data or information to identify issues, trends, or solutions.
• Experience working with computer-based systems and multiple software tools.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience learning and applying procedures in an operational environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating electrical power plants or working in a control room, operations, or industrial environment.
• Experience in power plant operations, particularly within renewable energy or battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Experience clearly documenting events and communicating effectively with team members in a control room or operations setting.
• Experience with outage reporting rules, operational compliance, or grid coordination.
• Technical education, military experience, or hands-on exposure to electrical, mechanical, or STEM-related systems.
