Responsibilities
- Ensure contractors, sub-contractors and their employees are complying with safety & environmental regulations and contract requirements.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure design, technical specifications, and contracts are followed and that work is completed according to schedule and within budget.
- Prepare job planning documentation working closely with project stakeholders.
- Audit HSSE discussions & written daily job plans.
- Attend pre-bid, pre-construction, & monthly construction meetings, including documentation of meeting minutes.
- Conduct Safe Work and Environmental Observations on medium and high risk work.
- Attend all Contractor's Health, Safety and Environmental meetings.
- Inspect all work performed to ensure compliance with the contract drawings, technical specifications, regulatory requirements and applicable codes.
- Prepare and submit daily construction reports, reporting on health & safety, environmental, and construction progress.
- Recommend corrective courses of action to management as issues arise.
- Recommend changes in the work plan if efficiency in work practices can be improved.
- Conduct contractor post-work evaluations regarding health and safety, environmental, technical, project management and financial performance.
Requirements
- An interest in renewable energy production, specifically hydroelectric power;
- A desire to work in the field in different environments and with a variety of contractors;
- Basic knowledge to be able to inspect in-progress construction work to ensure compliance with the contract documents, technical specifications, permits, and drawings;
- Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects;
- Good oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface and coordinate work daily with other Brookfield divisions and external organizations;
- Good negotiation skills with clients, contractors, and vendors;
- Strong project management and organizational skills;
- Ability to work independently and with minimal daily supervision;
- A practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred, applicable work experience will also be considered;
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products;
- Experience/exposure in the hydropower, wind power or power generation fields;
- Field experience related to the hazards associated with the work;
- Training in occupational Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
