Contractor Inspector

To ensure quality contract construction work based on Company specifications. Directs performance of contract work, monitors construction, and coordinates work schedules to meet Company requirements and standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections of contract construction work, including Avista contractors, customer contractors, and other municipalities.
• Serve as subject‑matter expert on Avista standards, construction feasibility, and specifications.
• Assist contractors in planning and coordinating work; perform pre‑construction inspections to verify feasibility.
• Provide technical support to Customer Project Coordinators.
• Drive to construction sites regularly to inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, scope, statement of work, and craftsmanship expectations.
• Report major infractions or technical problems to the Project Manager with corrective‑action recommendations.
• Assist contractors with material accounting, inspect proper storage and return of materials, and verify quantities against project material lists.
• Support contractors in obtaining correct material quantities or additional materials not included in the original list.
• Verify or modify construction prints on‑site and make necessary changes to materials or methods to expedite work.
• Coordinate or adjust maps and plans at job completion, documenting all changes, additions, and deletions.
• Approve field changes as necessary.
• Prepare various Company reports related to each job and keep the Project Manager informed of job status.
• Maintain adequate records of work performed.
• Support coordination of line shutdowns and outages with contractors, System Operations, and Distribution Operations.
• Review invoices for labor and materials for accuracy.
• Coordinate scheduling of contracted work, aligning needs of multiple departments and divisions to optimize outcomes.
• Ensure work is constructed in accordance with Avista standards and safe operating practices.
• Inspect work locations for conformance with 811 locate laws and permitting requirements.
• Contact, advise, or coordinate with customers, HOAs, private utility representatives, building managers, consulting engineers, dealers, and contractors regarding project schedule, benefits, and impacts.

Requirements

• Three + years of inspection experience in construction, **or** five + years in electric utility field operations, construction practices, and standards.
• Demonstrated knowledge of electric line construction maps and drawings, basic electricity, line safety, right‑of‑way, and accounting procedures.
• Ability to effectively administer contracts, estimate, and manage projects.
• Working knowledge of state, national, and federal codes and regulations.
• Proficient computer skills, including work‑management and financial‑system applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
• Valid driver’s license.

Pay

Hiring range: $88,336 to $114,838. Full salary range for this position: $88,336 to $141,339.
