About the role

The Applications Engineer - Custom Equipment and Quoting applies technical expertise to evaluate field-developed specifications, generate competitive quotes for custom fluid transfer systems, and design safe, workable, and manufacturable solutions. This role bridges sales and production by creating advanced CAD designs, system layouts, and 3D models to customer specifications and engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Estimation & Quoting Custom Equipment: Utilize technical knowledge and field-provided data to quote custom pipe and swivel equipment (loading arms) and complex terminal layouts.
• KPI-Driven Turnaround: Meet or exceed departmental KPIs for quote accuracy, technical verification, and speed of quote turnaround to maximize sales conversion.
• Cost & Accuracy Optimization: Ensure all custom loading arm configurations and engineering quotes are accurate and economical. Create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support manufacturing to ensure seamless transition to production.
• Sales Collaboration: Act as the primary technical partner to internal sales teams, translating regional sales notes and field requirements into viable commercial options.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Coordinate with sales, engineering, manufacturing, and other departments to streamline the quoting-to-purchase order pipeline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (BSME / BSMET).
• 2 years of professional engineering or technical quoting experience.
• Software Proficiency: 2 years of experience using 3D CAD programs (Creo/ProE preferred) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with custom piping design, pressure vessels, swivels, or custom equipment layouts.
• Experience using product configuration, Excel, and quoting software alongside Oracle ERP.
• Proven ability to solve practical field problems with variables in custom, non-standardized engineering situations.
• Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and Boiler Pressure Vessel Code.
• Strong math skills, excellent communication (verbal and written), high customer focus, and a positive attitude.
• Self-directed, ethical, and able to work with minimal supervision.
