About the role
The District Attorney’s Office is seeking contract attorneys to handle dockets in the Harris County Justice of the Peace Courts.
Responsibilities
- Cover one or more Justice of the Peace Courts
- Handle arraignment, pretrial dockets, and trial
- Prepare complaints and charging instruments
- Review and respond to emails from defendants and defense attorneys
- Perform other duties in the Justice of the Peace Courts as assigned by the Chief Prosecutor of the Justice of the Peace Court Section
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Texas Bar certification
- Texas licensed attorney
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to manage a demanding workload with sound problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
Pay
Hourly rate of $35.00 to $50.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 20 to 40 hours per week, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Benefits
Mileage will be reimbursed; distance of commute will be considered when making court assignments.
