Contingent Vehicle, Crate & Inventory Assistant - Animal Relocation

About the role

This position is open to all eligible candidates based within a one-hour driving radius of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas, Texas. A 30-minute or less driving radius is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help the Senior Manager – Operations maintain a custom-built fleet of 23 vehicles by completing checklists and required logs, identifying and performing basic maintenance, reconfiguring crates and equipment, and all other tasks that help keep vehicles on the road and ready for transport
  • Help the Senior Manager – Operations and the Manager – Flights maintain hundreds of RuffLand kennels and airline flight crates, stored and transported coast-to-coast
  • Help outfit new vehicles, installing basic equipment and loading supplies, transporting vehicles between multiple vendors and helping monitor and document the process
  • Thoroughly sanitize and disinfect vehicles, crates (on average 50-100 per assignment) and other equipment, including the removal of feces, urine, and vomit in accordance with complex, very detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Perform extremely physical, multi-step cleaning process in a variety of weather conditions, including: unpack, disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble crates as part of the cleaning process
  • Palletize, wrap, load, ship, move, and receive crates and other supplies following the cleaning process
  • Load crates onto vehicles for shipping and delivery processes, including lifting up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Perform vehicle audits, thoroughly inspecting and documenting equipment, supplies, and condition and performance of vehicles
  • Partner with the Senior Manager – Operations to monitor, accurately document (electronically), and maintain an extensive inventory of supplies, crates and equipment; may require travel to facilities in other states
  • Communicate challenges with inventory clearly and timely to management; support implementation of new inventory processes or guidelines
  • Complete all forms, reports, data collection, and other activities on-time and with the highest degree of accuracy
  • Partner with the Senior Manager – Operations to ensure insurance, registration, and other required paperwork and documentation is maintained on each vehicle
  • Assume financial accountability for an ASPCA credit card, submit receipts in a timely manner, and adhere to ASPCA expense and travel policies
  • Understand and follow OHSA regulations and requirements of the vehicle
  • Take photographs for training, outfitting vehicles, and inventory management
  • Drive ASPCA (or rented) vehicles in accordance with all federal, state and local laws, ordinances, codes, regulations, and the ASPCA Fleet Policy
  • Drive defensively, in accordance with extensive training; respond to and report all accidents and moving violations/citations immediately, following ASPCA policy and procedures
  • Drive vehicles to scheduled maintenance appointments, to shelters for supply/equipment delivery, and any other local needs
  • Rarely, serve as a back-up driver for Animal Relocation Drivers, serving as a passenger and supporting the driver with safely managing the animals and vehicle throughout the relocation process

Qualifications

  • Deep commitment to saving more shelter pets’ lives through critical transport assistance work
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members, supervisors, and colleagues from other departments
  • Ability to always represent the ASPCA in a professional manner when communicating with shelter staff and the general public, serving as an ambassador for our mission-driven work
  • Self-directed and highly-motivated, demonstrating the highest level of performance, with minimal supervision in a remote environment
  • Ability to read, understand, and precisely follow extensive and complex directions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and take pride in our work
  • Willingness to clean animal housing areas, including exposure to animals’ bodily fluids
  • Basic computer skills required; familiarity with using an iPad, iPhone, Airtable or other database software, and Teams highly preferred
  • Ability to repeatedly bend, crouch, and kneel throughout multi-step process in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds
