About the role

TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate newsroom, streaming, and on-air technology platforms across on-prem and cloud environments, including live production, control room automation, contribution, playout, and digital streaming workflows (e.g., CUEZ, newsroom systems, graphics, and automation platforms).
  • Partner with station engineering, digital, streaming, and application owners to understand operational requirements, forecast capacity and costs, and deliver scalable, resilient solutions that support linear, OTT, and digital-first production models.
  • Troubleshoot, triage, and resolve production, streaming, and application issues impacting live broadcasts, live streams, and newsroom operations; perform root cause analysis and clearly document incidents, fixes, and preventative actions.
  • Document end-to-end station workflows (newsroom → control room → streaming → distribution), maintain clear runbooks and knowledge base articles, and enable self-service and Service Desk escalation paths where appropriate.
  • Implement and operate monitoring, alerting, and automation workflows to proactively detect issues across broadcast, streaming, and cloud platforms; reduce mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to restore (MTTR).
  • Maintain accurate inventories of applications, services, integrations, and versions for newsroom, streaming, and production systems within the ServiceNow CMDB to support reporting, lifecycle management, and incident response.
  • Drive service quality and operational excellence by analyzing incidents, trends, and customer feedback; recommend process, tooling, or architecture improvements to improve stability and viewer experience.
  • Adapt to changing newsroom and streaming demands, support special projects or live events as assigned, and constructively challenge existing processes to improve reliability, speed, and scalability.

Requirements

  • College degree, relevant certifications, or equivalent practical experience in broadcast, media technology, or IT operations.
  • Hands-on experience supporting broadcast, newsroom, and streaming technologies, such as Cuez or similar newsroom systems, graphics platforms, production control room automation, contribution/distribution systems, and live streaming workflows (experience with CUEZ or similar live production tools strongly preferred).
  • Working knowledge of cloud and hybrid environments supporting media workflows (e.g., cloud-based contribution, streaming, monitoring, or playout).
  • Strong understanding of IT service management concepts and tooling, including ITIL practices, incident/problem management, knowledge management, CMDBs, and ServiceNow.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple operational priorities simultaneously, particularly in live production or time-sensitive environments.
  • Clear communicator who can translate technical issues into business and operational impact for engineers, newsroom staff, digital teams, vendors, and leadership.
  • Analytical, methodical problem solver with the ability to diagnose complex issues across systems, networks, applications, and workflows.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
  • Two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance.
  • A 401(k) program offering full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.
  • Free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
  • A generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
