Consulting Utility Forester

Location: Gaithersburg, MD (Montgomery County, MD) – on-site role.

As a Vegetation Management professional, you will maintain safe and reliable utility infrastructure and natural resources.

Responsibilities

• Conduct vegetation inspections and assessments along utility rights-of-way.
• Identify tree and brush management needs and recommend treatment plans.
• Support Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) and environmental projects.
• Use GIS mapping and mobile technology to collect and document field data.
• Evaluate terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions in project areas.
• Collaborate with planners, project managers, and field crews to implement vegetation solutions.
• Help utilities maintain compliance, reliability, and public safety.

Requirements

• Passion for working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
• Ability to read and interpret GIS maps and spatial data.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable using mobile technology.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to operate a 4x4 vehicle and travel within the service area.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn local tree species identification and growth patterns.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred).
• Utility vegetation management or right-of-way experience (preferred).
• ISA Certified Arborist® (preferred).
• Leadership experience and a desire for career advancement are strongly encouraged.

Pay

$20 – $24 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
