About the role

Responsible for consulting and providing guidance regarding technical and regulatory issues for laboratories in designated territory. The consulting technologist position will assist laboratory leadership to prepare for inspections related to accreditation with the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), COLA, AABB, Joint Commission, and others as applicable.

Must have a thorough knowledge of general laboratory operations, health care operations, and management principles. Must also develop relationships in order to build and maintain the client base. Demonstrates patience, kindness, and cooperation with clients and co-workers.

May be asked to travel to any laboratory site depending on the needs of the facility and at the discretion of the leadership. This position may require acting as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, and Technical Consultant as needed. Must also qualify to perform duties delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director.

This position will help support laboratories within the Sanford Health–Marshfield Region. In this role, the consulting technologist is responsible for utilizing knowledge and skills to ensure successful implementation and oversight of the Laboratory Quality Management Program. Hybrid work model with travel estimated at 10–50% depending on department needs.

Responsibilities

  • Consult and provide guidance on technical and regulatory issues for laboratories.
  • Assist laboratory leadership in preparing for accreditation inspections (CAP, CLIA, COLA, AABB, Joint Commission, etc.).
  • Act as CLIA Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, or Technical Consultant as needed.
  • Support implementation and oversight of the Laboratory Quality Management Program.
  • Travel to laboratory sites as required (10–50%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science is required.
  • Five years’ laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic laboratory preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Registered by the American Society of Laboratory Science as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency (e.g., American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)).
  • If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.

Pay

Salary range: $29.00 – $46.50 per hour
