Consulting Systems Engineer - Core
About the role
As a Consulting Systems Engineer (CSE), you will lead the technical vision for Fortune 500 - Fortune 2,000 clients across industries. This senior pre-sales role is ideal for a seasoned engineer passionate about designing big-picture solutions and guiding customers through complex digital transformations. The ideal candidate will drive success through building strong customer and OEM relationships built on trust and collaboration. You’ll design multi-cloud strategies, modern data centers, and advanced security solutions, while serving as a trusted advisor partnering with sales to align customer goals with innovative technologies. With access to our world-class Advanced Technology Center (ATC) for demos, workshops, and learning, you’ll deliver top-tier results. This position requires up to 25% travel.
Responsibilities
- Lead and own the technical sales strategy for key accounts, proactively identifying customer challenges and designing innovative architecture solutions that deliver real business value.
- Partner with your Sales counterpart across customer engagements—from discovery meetings and whiteboard design sessions to product demos and solution presentations.
- Shape cost-effective solutions that meet both the customer’s technical requirements and financial constraints.
- Translate customer requirements into custom technical designs and compelling proposals, simplifying complex concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Serve as the technical expert in your focus area, designing solutions across storage, compute, data protection/backup, disaster recovery, cyber resiliency, virtualization, hyperconverged infrastructure, and cloud/hybrid cloud environments.
- Identify and leverage extended team resources to bring additional expertise and scope to customers.
- Leverage the ATC for hands-on workshops, demos, and proofs-of-concept to accelerate sales cycles and demonstrate value early.
- Build, grow, and manage strong relationships with customer teams, becoming their go-to consultative advisor.
- Set clear expectations, communicate with precision, and lead conversations to add value in every meeting.
- Use business insight to understand clients’ operations and guide them toward strategic, future-proof solutions.
- Map WWT’s value proposition to customer needs and requirements.
- Work closely with partners and OEMs (leading technology vendors) to craft unified solutions and deliver industry expertise.
- Stay ahead of tech trends and emerging technologies, expanding expertise across adjacent domains (e.g., cloud, security, networking, digital workplace).
- Take ownership of career development with guidance from leadership.
- Demonstrate curiosity and creativity in solving customer problems and provide thought leadership by sharing insights on new technologies and best practices.

Requirements
- Proven track record (typically 8+ years) in solutions architecture or systems engineering roles, designing and supporting complex solutions in large enterprise environments.
- Deep technical expertise in data center infrastructure spanning storage, compute, backup and data protection, disaster recovery, cyber resiliency, virtualization, hyperconverged infrastructure, and cloud/hybrid cloud architectures.
- Broad technical knowledge across multiple IT domains beyond your core focus (e.g., enterprise networking, security infrastructure, collaboration/unified communications).
- Architectural thinker who approaches problems holistically, weaving together hardware, software, and services from a broad portfolio of vendors.
- Experience working with and leveraging OEM partner solutions in areas like storage, compute, cloud, data protection, and cybersecurity.
- Sharp business acumen and consultative skills—ability to listen to a client’s business objectives and translate them into technical requirements and strategy.
- Comfortable engaging with executive stakeholders to articulate the business value of technology solutions in clear, impactful terms.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, adept at simplifying complex ideas for both technical and executive audiences.
- Rigor and discipline in documentation and written communication.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, delivery) and with external partners.
- Ability to lead by influence, manage expectations, and drive alignment across stakeholders to move deals forward.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) or equivalent practical experience.
- Certifications in relevant areas (Dell, VMware/Broadcom, Pure, NetApp, Cisco, Veeam, Microsoft Azure, AWS, etc.) or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Ability to travel up to ~25% for client meetings within the region.
Pay
A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $150,000.00 to $210,000.00 annually. This role is OTE-eligible, with additional variable compensation provided on top of the base salary. Actual salary will be based on factors such as shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs.
