Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

NHS Western Isles is seeking a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join our team in a remote and rural setting, offering a unique work-life balance and the chance to contribute to a supportive healthcare environment.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of two obstetrics and gynaecology consultants at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, a modern Rural General Hospital (Plus) with 85 inpatient beds and 16 day surgery beds. The role offers a chance to combine progressive clinical practice with a rewarding lifestyle in one of Scotland’s most attractive island locations.

The post is for 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week, plus up to a maximum of 2 extra programmed activities (EPAs) per week, and includes an 8% availability allowance, subject to an agreed job plan. The on-call rota is 1:2.

We are open to discussions regarding alternative working models, such as on/off island arrangements, annualised hours, part-time, or job share options, to align with service requirements and your aspirations.

Western Isles Hospital is located in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, part of Scotland’s Atlantic Islands. Requirements

• Must be on the GMC Specialist Register with a License to Practice, or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.
• Applicants will be fully supported in working toward this requirement.
• Registration with the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme is required for the successful applicant.

Benefits

• Salary: £111,430 - £148,064 per annum.
• Distant Island Allowance: £1,461 per annum.
