Consultant, Cybersecurity (Agentic Solutions Engineer)

Nationwide · Columbus, OH · 2 mo ago
$118k–$222k/yrFull-time

About the Role

Join Nationwide’s Technology team, a dynamic organization that enables a Fortune 100 company with nearly $70 billion in annual sales to drive innovation and adopt new technologies. At Nationwide, “on your side” goes beyond words—our customers are at the center of everything we do, and we seek associates passionate about delivering extraordinary care.

This role is part of the Cyber Security Operations Center’s Innovation and Integration (CSOC-INI) team, which transforms emerging ideas into secure, production-ready capabilities that advance cyber defense. You’ll work across agentic solutions, modern application engineering, platform foundations, and security data engineering to translate complex operational needs into scalable, observable outcomes. This is a rare opportunity to help define how agentic AI is used in cyber security at enterprise scale.

You will design and build production-ready solutions combining modern LLM platforms, agent frameworks, enterprise data, and secure workflow orchestration to solve real Security Operations problems. Collaborating with engineering, platform, and cyber security teams, you’ll turn high-value use cases into trusted, observable, and governed capabilities—shaping the future operating model for AI-enabled cyber defense.

This role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office work 2 days per week (Mondays and Wednesdays) at the Columbus, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; or Scottsdale, Arizona office. Remote internal associates may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate agentic cyber security solutions using approved models, agent frameworks, enterprise data sources, and tool integrations.
  • Partner closely with cyber security professionals, platform, and operations engineers to ensure solutions are valuable, secure, observable, governed, and production-ready.
  • Own agent behavior, orchestration, prompt and context patterns, retrieval design, evaluation strategy, and workflow implementation.
  • Build production-grade agent workflows, tools, and orchestration logic.
  • Select appropriate models, prompts, context windows, and memory patterns for the use case.
  • Implement retrieval and enterprise data access in a trustworthy and maintainable way.
  • Design human-in-the-loop steps, exception paths, and quality controls.
  • Define and execute evaluation plans for quality, safety, and regression detection.
  • Instrument solutions with the right telemetry in partnership with platform engineering.
  • Remediate defects quickly and support production troubleshooting when solution logic is involved.
  • Continuously improve solution quality, reusability, and business value over time.
  • Lead or respond to complex cyber incidents using industry-recognized methodology (e.g., PICERL: Preparation, Identification, Containment, Eradication, Recovery, and Lessons Learned).
  • Create uplift of cyber security detection and alerts for ongoing prevention of threats.
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology solutions from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Use an efficiency mindset for incident response to design and implement automation and orchestration for the enrichment and handling of cyber security events.
  • Manage and support vulnerability management via tools, processes, and proactive identification of vulnerabilities in the environment.
  • Plan and conduct team activities to enrich detection and prevention controls.
  • Plan and deliver proactive cyber activities (purple teaming, threat hunting, red teaming, etc.) with full understanding of the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
  • Identify critical log sources and system events used for creation and tuning of cyber security detections.
  • Maintain awareness of the current cyber threat landscape to perform evaluation, enrichment, and dissemination for action to protect Nationwide members and environment.
  • Lead and work on initiatives as part of the overall cyber operations strategy.

Requirements

  • Security Operations experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong software engineering skills, ideally with advanced Python and working ability in adjacent languages (Java, TypeScript) used across the stack.
  • Experience building LLM-powered or agentic applications, including Eval design.
  • Strong prompt, context, and tool-integration design skills.
  • Experience with harness design, retrieval patterns, search, memory, and knowledge grounding.
  • Experience integrating APIs, files, enterprise data, and workflow systems.
  • Ability to translate business processes into deterministic and agent-assisted workflows.
  • Working knowledge of secure design, testing, evaluation, and release practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with architecture, security, platform, and Cyber Security Operations stakeholders.
  • Typically, six years of experience in technology, with four years in cyber security.
  • Experience using Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems, administration, and tools.
  • Experience with network configurations, protocols, scripting, web application security, network security, firewalls, and network topology from both physical and logical viewpoints.
  • Scripting experience in PowerShell, Python, Bash, and Windows Batch.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate studies in cyber security, management information systems, engineering, math, computer science, data analytics, or comparable experience and education strongly preferred.
  • Graduate studies in cyber security, computer science, or a related field are a plus.
