Construction Worker
About the role
Primary Purpose: Under supervision, performs skilled construction work and operates several types of construction equipment.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Experience: Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record, 2+ years of industrial/utility construction work experience, and a High School Diploma/GED.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions, read and interpret documents, communicate effectively with others, and possess basic math skills.
Responsibilities
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications
- Sets up barricades when required to protect employees and the general public
- Digs holes, run-off gutters, and trenches using hand tools and other equipment
- Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections
- Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line
- Levels earth to fine grade specifications
Working Conditions
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent walking, climbing; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, crawling. Lifting: Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling (80+ pounds) occasionally.
Environment: Work outside or inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, dirt, sewage, water, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; insects, rodents, may work alone, regular exposure to high heat, fast moving mechanical parts.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
