Construction Utility Foreman
Position Summary
The Foreman is a hands-on leader responsible for supervising and actively participating in the daily operations of utility construction projects. This role combines physical labor with leadership duties, ensuring the efficient and safe installation and maintenance of utility systems. The Foreman oversees construction operations and ensures compliance with safety standards to keep operations running smoothly. Their experience is pivotal in maintaining Benchmark's high operational standards and fostering a productive work environment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervises and coordinates daily activity and time reporting of field crews
- Supervises daily paperwork execution (toolbox talks, dig permits, etc.)
- Reviews, understands, and follows project plans and blueprints and tracks records of materials, deliveries, trucking and subcontractor work
- Examines and inspects work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met
- Troubleshoots and solves operational problems in a timely manner to minimize downtime
- Maintains effective communication with Superintendent, project managers, and subcontractors to resolve issues, report progress, and address changes in project scope
- Identifies and addresses operational challenges or issues that may arise during underground utility installation
- Supervises and coordinates a team of employees, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely
- Performs operations to meet job costs, schedule, and production goals
- Reads and interprets blueprints and construction drawings, specifications, schematics, and technical manuals for equipment installation and repair
- Locates, measures, and marks site locations or placement of structures or equipment, using measuring and marking equipment
- Be accountable of self and entire crew on job site
- Ensures compliance with site specifications and safety regulations, and manages quality standards of each project
- Inspects work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met
- Effectively communicates and resolves conflicts, address workplace disputes, and manage internal issues that arise on the job site
- Trains and mentors crew members to enhance technical skills and knowledge
- Manages performance evaluations for crew members
- Performs other duties, as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in the construction industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role
- OSHA 10/30 Certifications
- Previous experience working with subcontractors and managing on-site teams effectively
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for equipment installation and repair
- Must be willing to perform duties of laborer and operator upon demand if necessary
- Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; adding and subtracting totals; multiplying and dividing
- Physical stamina and ability to work in all weather conditions
- Must have reliable transportation to the assigned jobsite daily
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating large heavy equipment
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Valid Driver's license
