About the role
Eastman’s WWE&C Construction Technologist is a member of a leadership team that provides safe, effective construction and turnaround execution to meet or exceed business and operational needs. The Construction Technologist works with project teams and execution forces to effectively execute Capital Projects, striving to be a center of excellence for Eastman.
The Construction Technologist provides leadership throughout the execution of capital projects and turnarounds by maximizing value through safe execution within budget, on schedule, and ensuring required operability for business partners.
Responsibilities
- Focus on construction tactical and field issues
- Communicate safety expectations and processes to execution forces
- Monitor work to ensure compliance
- Perform routine field audits (Safety and Productivity) with the construction execution teams and report findings
- Provide input to constructability, execution plans, schedules, and estimates
- Initiate work requests
- Review and approve execution plans, schedules, estimates, and field deviations (PCN, Rework, Delay Charges)
- Coordinate contractors and construction execution
- Monitor performance of individual projects
- Review, verify, and approve occasional use contractor invoices
- Inspect and accept installations and turnover packages
- Verify completion of work and initiate closing notices
- Support turnarounds and outages at various times throughout the year as needed
Requirements
- High School diploma required; 2-year associate/technical degree or 4-year degree a plus
- 5+ years of industrial/commercial construction experience, including:
- Building and Engineering Knowledge: Understanding of construction materials, tools, and techniques (e.g., masonry, plumbing, HVAC, operating heavy machinery)
- Safety Compliance: Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to implement safety protocols
- Project Management: Skills in planning, scheduling, and managing resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to read blueprints, use construction software, and knowledge of various tools and machinery
- Demonstrated Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) skillsets a plus
- Preferred certifications: CWI, E&I certifications, NCCER certification
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to wear all required PPE, including steel toe shoes, hard hats, safety goggles/glasses, gloves, protective clothing, and hearing protection
- Willing to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to squat, bend, reach, and climb ladders
- Must be able to lift heavy items, occasionally up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to pass physical, drug screen, motor vehicle, and background check
- Ability to occasionally switch from day shift to night shift
