About the role
As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will prepare and issue quality inspection documentation and collect evidence of compliance from suppliers. You will build and maintain relationships with suppliers to understand their processes, offer assistance, and provide training to ensure their deliverables meet Safran Test Cells' quality standards. This role involves significant travel to supplier locations both nationally and internationally to conduct quality inspections and ensure findings are resolved before product shipment.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure they understand and conform to STC quality standards.
- Visit various suppliers and closely monitor all product manufacturing phases to ensure quality adherence, communicating concerns and coordinating corrective actions as necessary.
- Review raw materials lists for product builds to ensure compliance with STC and customer quality specifications, as well as specific contract requirements.
- Assist with writing and ensuring completion of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) during order execution and prior to product shipment from the supplier factory to meet On Time Quality and On Time Delivery requirements.
- Follow the company's QMS FAT requirements for properly recording and storing suppliers' manufacturing quality records and documentation, including all communication documents.
- Ensure Deviation Requests and Non-Conforming Product Reports are processed through the system correctly.
- Participate with Supply Chain in the performance evaluation of suppliers.
- Assist with the development and training of best practices for all suppliers to ensure ongoing conformance to STC processes and purchase order requirements.
- Continually seek opportunities for improvement related to cost-saving ways to produce quality products and ensure on-time delivery.
- Document lessons learned during each project and report them to the Quality team.
- Actively participate in a continuous improvement culture by providing recommendations and implementing enhancements to current methods and procedures.
- Lead or participate in 8D root cause analysis and corrective action projects as needed.
- Conduct internal and supplier quality audits as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field highly preferred.
- Associate degree required, or equivalent combination of education and 3-5 years of experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer, Quality Engineer, or related manufacturing/construction quality role.
- 2+ years of experience in product inspection, manufacturing processes, construction materials, concrete products, or related quality assurance activities preferred.
- Experience working with suppliers of fabricated steel, concrete components, precast concrete, structural materials, or construction-related products is highly desirable.
Skills
- Quality Reviews, GD&T, Machining, Materials (primarily steel and concrete), Welding, Heat Treatment, Metal Coatings, and Supplier Audits.
- Concrete manufacturing processes, precast concrete production, reinforced concrete structures, concrete testing methods, and applicable industry standards.
- Construction quality management practices, inspection techniques, non-conformance management, corrective actions, and supplier performance improvement.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, construction specifications, structural plans, and technical requirements.
- Assembly processes including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- ISO 9001-based Quality Management Systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and supplier development skills.
- Willing and able to travel up to 70% domestically and internationally, as required.
