Construction Superintendent - High Voltage Electrical

About the role

Oversee and coordinate high-voltage electrical construction activities for large-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind facilities. This role ensures that high-voltage installation, testing, and commissioning activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering designs, regulatory requirements, and project schedules.

Serving as the Owner’s on-site representative, the High Voltage Superintendent works closely with EPC contractors, electrical subcontractors, utilities, inspectors, and internal teams to coordinate field activities, monitor quality and safety, and resolve issues that could impact project performance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee high-voltage electrical construction activities for utility-scale renewable energy projects including solar, BESS, and wind.
• Lead onsite coordination with EPC contractors, electrical subcontractors, utilities, inspectors, and internal project teams.
• Ensure installation and commissioning of substations, collection systems, transformers, switchgear, and interconnection infrastructure meet engineering designs, codes, and utility requirements.
• Conduct regular site walks and inspections to monitor progress and proactively address field issues.
• Coordinate electrical construction activities with civil, mechanical, and general construction scopes to ensure seamless execution.
• Review work plans, construction methods, schedules, and safety procedures for high-voltage scopes.
• Support pre-construction planning, including logistics, sequencing, and constructability reviews.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance through adherence to inspection and test plans, specifications, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in inspections, testing, punch walks, mechanical completion, and project closeout activities.
• Identify and mitigate project risks while supporting corrective actions and issue resolution in the field.
• Monitor contractor performance and support resolution of RFIs, change orders, and scope clarification.
• Serve as EPS’s onsite representative while coordinating with utilities, AHJs, EPC partners, and stakeholders.
• Lead daily coordination meetings and support mentorship and development of field teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in electrical construction with significant experience in high-voltage systems.
• Experience supporting construction of renewable energy projects such as solar, BESS, or wind.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical infrastructure including substations, collection systems, switchgear, transformers, and interconnection equipment.
• Proven ability to coordinate electrical contractors and manage field operations on large construction projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience using Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, and construction scheduling tools.
• OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to project sites across the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (nice to have).
• PMI (PMP) or CMAA certification (nice to have).
• Experience with utility-scale renewable energy construction projects (nice to have).
• Experience working within EPC or EPCM contracting environments (nice to have).
• Familiarity with electrical commissioning and startup activities (nice to have).
• Experience with permitting and regulatory compliance processes (nice to have).
• Familiarity with renewable energy incentive programs such as RETA (nice to have).
