About Us
We are a reputable and well-established commercial construction company servicing the Southeast US. Headquartered near Winston Salem, NC, we have been building commercial buildings since the early 90s and have established ourselves as one of the go-to general contractors in the region. With around 50 employees and 34 projects currently under construction, we are looking to hire an additional superintendent to support our ongoing work with repeat clients in our commercial upfit division. Projects range in size from $500k to $2M.
About the Role
The Project Superintendent (PS) manages day-to-day construction activities and supervises field personnel and subcontractors to successfully complete the project on schedule. The PS ensures quality work consistent with project contract plans and specifications, administers good construction safety practices, and maintains a clean and orderly site. The PS reports directly to the Project Manager.
This is an exempt position. Worksite location is at the construction jobsite trailer or main offices, depending on company needs. The role involves close collaboration with jobsite staff, main office staff, vendors, clients, and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day activities to meet project milestones and complete projects on or ahead of schedule.
- Take actions to address delays, bad weather, or emergencies at the construction site.
- Create short-interval look-ahead project schedules to communicate, track, and proactively address upcoming events.
- Manage and look ahead at least 3 weeks to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
- Report all project delays to the Project Manager and propose solutions with minimal impact to the project schedule.
- Maintain daily and weekly logs of construction progress.
- Obtain and document all inspections and ensure quality of work prior to each inspection.
- Maintain jobsite safety, health, and cleanliness.
- Verify all work is installed to a high workmanship standard.
- Conduct daily inspections of the construction site to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations.
- Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
- Identify design and construction elements likely to produce constructability or coordination issues prior to project commencement.
- Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ensure project documentation and reports are complete.
- Attend all necessary jobsite meetings, whether onsite or offsite.
- Manage punch lists and project closeout.
- Review all submittals and RFIs to ensure timely and accurate responses and execution.
- Handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts as required.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited two-year college or university with major coursework in construction science, engineering, architecture, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in commercial upfit construction projects or ground-up commercial construction.
- 3+ years of experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent in commercial construction.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good understanding of structural concrete, Type V and III wood-framed buildings, and MEP building systems.
- Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods.
- Thorough knowledge of legal issues and safety standards.

- Recent working knowledge and competence in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and MS Project.
- Knowledge and experience in Prolog or similar project management software is a plus.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Pay
$80–110k base salary, company truck (or allowance), gas card, and project bonus.
