About the role
The Construction Summer Intern supports the project team on an active renovation or new construction project in New York City. This role provides hands-on exposure to day-to-day construction operations, project management, and field coordination while working alongside experienced project managers and superintendents. The internship is designed for college students pursuing professions in construction management.
Responsibilities
- Assist Superintendents in managing day-to-day field operations on active construction sites
- Observe and support trade coordination and construction sequencing
- Attend project meetings, coordination meetings, and inspections as required
- Support preparation of meeting agendas and meeting minutes
- Assist in maintaining daily logs, site reports, photos, and progress documentation
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, and document control
- Assist with inspections, punch lists, and quality documentation
- Support construction work and coordination in occupied or partially occupied building environments
Learning Experience
- Observe construction progress and quality control procedures
- Learn NYC site safety requirements and best practices
- Gain exposure to NYC DOB processes, inspections, and permits
- Learn about constraints in existing buildings and urban sites
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- Completed at least one year of coursework
- Basic knowledge of construction drawings and specifications
- Strong interest in construction project management or field operations
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Collaborative, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset with attention to detail
- Ability to work in an active construction environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior construction, internship, or trade experience
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, or MS Excel
- 40-Hour Site Safety Training (SST) Card
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Full-time, on-site position at an active NYC renovation or new construction project
- Ability to walk the site, climb, lift, and stand for extended periods
- May involve early mornings or extended hours depending on project needs
