About the role
The Construction Specialist provides contractor oversight for field activities. This includes adherence to drawings and specifications, coordination of activities with existing facility, and oversight safety, environmental, and QA/QC compliance. They will support the Site Construction Manager in contractor management as well as be the interface for Discipline Engineers for construction issues. Multiple locations in North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Monitor performance by the contractor and their subcontractors regarding civil/earthwork, rebar fabrication/concrete placements, mechanical systems and piping (underground and above ground), electrical and instrumentation systems
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices and environmental work practices
- Monitor performance against the schedule
- Validate milestones and/or quantities submitted by the contractor for payment
- Assist in resolution of field problems as appropriate
- Identify and provide field observations of key work activities
- Ensure the quality of construction through continuous monitoring of the construction and installation QC process
- Communicate and collaborate with team members daily to address construction issues
- Attend project and department meetings as required
- Support a diverse Construction and Maintenance team to achieve company objectives
- Support management of customer commitment dates and requests to increase customer satisfaction
Requirements
10+ years experience in construction, maintenance and restoration activities. Electrical background required. Level IV candidates may be considered depending on experience.
Skills
- Leadership skills to support construction, maintenance and restoration activities
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck or UTV onsite
- Knowledge of safe work practices, standards, work methods and procedures
- Strong civil/earthwork/rebar fabrication/concrete placement experience in power plant construction (preferred)
Schedule
Work hours: 40-70 hours per week with possible night shift coverage.
