About the role
The role of a Construction Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector is to ensure all aspects of a construction project meet the required quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. The QA Inspector is the on-site eyes & ears of the quality program with a main responsibility to verify construction work is performed correctly, safely, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and codes.
Responsibilities
- Inspection and Verification – Requires 75-80% jobsite presence
- Monitor Construction Manager activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards
- Inspect materials and workmanship throughout construction
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignments of structural components
- Maintain inspection records, including checklists, test results, and non-conformance reports
- Prepare daily or weekly QA reports summarizing findings and corrective actions
- Ensure traceability of materials and components through proper documentation
- Testing Results Oversight
- Witness or perform field tests (e.g., concrete slump, soil compaction, weld inspections)
- Clock with third-party testing agencies and ensure test results meet specifications
- Compliance and Standards
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, OSHA regulations, and project-specific QA/QC plans
- Stay updated on industry standards (e.g., ACI, ASTM, AISC)
- Issue Identification and Resolution
- Identify non-conformances or deviations from plans and specifications
- Work with the Construction Manager and Engineers to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions
- Coordination and Communication
- Collaborate with Zone Leads, Project Managers, Engineers, and the Construction Manager to ensure quality objectives are met
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and quality audits
- Continuous Improvement
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving construction processes and quality control measures
- Support training initiatives for site personnel on quality standards and procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of QA/QC experience on commercial construction projects; hospital or healthcare facility experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of healthcare construction requirements, codes, and regulatory agencies
- Familiarity with construction materials, techniques, and best practices
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office, Procore, Bluebeam, and other construction management software
- Certification(s) such as ICC, ASQ, CQM-C, or OSHA 30-Hour Construction preferred
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
- Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required
- Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day
- Must be able to lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance
Other Requirements
- Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record
- Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected
- Short term, out of town, assignments may be required
- Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates
- May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends
