About the role

The Major Projects Project Manager at Johnson Controls is a key member of the Building Solutions North America business. You will lead substantial HVAC Controls construction projects valued at $1M or more, requiring a seasoned construction professional to navigate the complexities of larger construction endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the profitable execution of assigned BAS Complex Projects
  • Offer input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, risk assessment, etc., during the TAS and development process
  • Ensure projects are executed accurately, on time, billed, within budget, and within the contract’s scope while maintaining positive cash flow and actively pursuing change orders
  • Evaluate the contractual scope of work, and the impact of client-issued bulletins, field directives, and/or scheduling changes, further supporting timely and cost-effective project delivery
  • Manage company technical resources and subcontractors, overseeing costs, billings, and collections
  • Develop and maintain strong long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors, attending job progress meetings as required and ensuring subcontractors understand project expectations
  • Coordinate with HVAC Sales & Operations Managers, Construction Management Services, HVAC Installation Manager, Systems Team Leader, Service Operations Manager, and/or Branch Mechanical Project Team Leader for resource allocation to meet project objectives
  • Develop and maintain Microsoft project schedules
  • Travel up to 25% into surrounding markets

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of direct project management experience in the Building Construction Industry is preferred
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills are essential, with the ability to convey technical material to a non-technical audience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project Scheduling software and financial accounting systems is required, along with strong personal computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project), Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment
  • Management experience with projects related to Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire management, and Security management systems is desired, with HVAC being highly preferred
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or an Associate’s Degree with equivalent work-related experience is preferred
  • PMI/PMP Certification is also preferred
  • This position requires extended deployment, typically ranging from 6 to 18 months, currently within the Pittsburgh market, with the ability to remain on site for the duration of the assignment
