About the role
ZAP Engineering & Construction Services, Inc. is seeking a Construction Project Manager for mechanical construction roles within the oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing sectors. This position reports to the VP of Construction and oversees the delivery of ZAP’s self-perform projects from mobilization to closeout.
Responsibilities
- Owns the delivery of ZAP’s self-perform projects from mobilization to closeout.
- Directs the General Superintendent and field organization; sets execution strategy, sequencing, and milestones.
- Drives field productivity and removes obstacles.
- Plans and resources manpower, equipment, and materials across the project.
- Owns the client relationship for the construction scope.
- Leads progress reviews and formal communications.
- Negotiates and administers change orders and scope deviations.
- Leads or supports construction estimating — quantity take-offs, labor/equipment/material pricing, and bid and budget development for new work, change orders, and scope additions.
- Tracks committed costs, actuals, earned value, and forecast-to-complete.
- Identifies cost and schedule risks early.
- Builds short-interval look-ahead and recovery plans.
- Presents progress dashboards to ZAP leadership and the client.
- Develops scopes of work and leads subcontractor pre-qualification, competitive bid, negotiation, and award.
- Owns safety as a personal value — visible on site, embedded in every plan, enforced without exception.
- Develops the General Superintendent and field/project staff.

Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent job experience.
- 7+ years of construction experience in oil & gas or heavy industrial, including mechanical/piping construction.
- 3+ years managing construction projects with responsibility for field execution, schedule, and cost/P&L.
- Demonstrated experience directing superintendents, foremen, and craft labor, and managing subcontractors.
- Experience in subcontract negotiation and administration, change orders, billing, and earned value.
- Proficiency in construction scheduling (P6 or MS Project) and MS Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASME B&PV) and field QA/QC processes.
- Valid, active driver's license and a good driving record.
- Preferred: PMP and/or CCM certification; OSHA 30-Hour Construction.
- Experience on integrated EPC projects with multi-discipline scopes and self-perform construction.
