About the role
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Construction Project Estimator to support a growing portfolio of commercial, federal, and institutional construction projects in Greensboro, NC. The role involves preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project documents, and supporting competitive bid proposals for projects ranging from small renovations to large-scale government facilities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial, federal, institutional, healthcare, and government construction projects
- Analyze project plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements to develop accurate project estimates
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
- Manage multiple estimates simultaneously, supporting approximately 3-5 active projects at any given time
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure competitive pricing
- Conduct cost analysis, value engineering, and pricing comparisons to optimize project budgets
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Preconstruction teams, and Operations throughout the bidding process
- Prepare bid packages, proposals, scope reviews, and estimate summaries for internal and client review
- Evaluate project risks, scope gaps, and potential cost impacts during preconstruction planning
- Maintain current knowledge of market pricing, labor trends, material costs, and industry best practices
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project handoff meetings as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered
- 5-10 years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Experience preparing estimates across multiple concurrent construction projects
- Strong experience estimating commercial, federal, institutional, healthcare, educational, or DoD construction projects
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, bid evaluations, and subcontractor management
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, scheduling, and project costs
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and construction estimating software
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced preconstruction environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), military, federal, or public sector construction projects
- Experience with estimating software such as Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, WinEst, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), ProEst, or similar platforms
- Experience with Design-Build, CMAR, or negotiated project delivery methods
- Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), AACE, ASPE, or LEED Accreditation
Pay
Salary: $95,000 - $130,000 (depending on experience)
