Responsibilities

  • Perform boundary, topographic, right-of-way, transportation, and construction layout surveys.
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment including Total Stations, GNSS/GPS, data collectors, and digital levels.
  • Collect accurate field data and maintain detailed field notes.
  • Absorb or lead survey crews depending on experience level.
  • Process field data (field-to-finish) and generate base mapping using AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Draft existing conditions plans, boundary plats, easement exhibits, and construction layout drawings.
  • Plot deeds, right-of-way plans, and survey control documentation.
  • Maintain digital project files and ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Aid with project scheduling, task tracking, and resource coordination for survey and inspection assignments.
  • Communicate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to support project delivery.
  • Prepare documentation for agency/municipal submissions and permitting packages.
  • Support construction inspections under the direction of senior inspectors or engineers.
  • Document construction activities, verify compliance with plans and specifications, and prepare daily reports.
  • Aid with materials testing coordination and contractor communication as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–5 years of experience in land surveying, construction inspection, or related civil engineering fieldwork.
  • Working knowledge of survey equipment such as Total Stations, GNSS/GPS, and data collectors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and be coached.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying field conditions.
  • Associate degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field (ABET-accredited preferred).
  • Experience with Trimble or Leica survey systems.
  • Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level I–III or completion of the FS exam.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D drafting workflows.
  • Experience with construction inspection, materials testing, or DOT/municipal projects.
  • Knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to surveying.
  • Experience preparing survey plats, legal descriptions, or construction staking calculations.
