About the role

This Opportunity WSP’s Engineered Construction team is growing, and we have opportunities for Construction Materials Testing Technicians in Atlanta, GA to perform field inspections and observations for commercial, industrial, and transportation related construction projects. We are seeking experienced construction engineering inspectors ICC, ACI and other certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing on general building sites and facilities
  • Interpret project plans and specifications for compliance with projects requirements
  • Perform Erosion Control (NPDES) Inspections
  • Sample and test concrete in accordance with ASTM and project specifications
  • Sample and test masonry & grout in accordance with ASTM and project specifications
  • Perform soil density testing using both nuclear gauge and sand cone in accordance with ASTM and project specifications on site at commercial construction projects
  • Perform foundation inspections for various shallow foundations in accordance with testing standards and project specifications
  • Inspect reinforced concrete in accordance with ICC Special Inspections standards
  • Prepare and submit written field reports summarizing daily activities/observations and density calculations and results
  • Observe proof rolls, undercut operations, perform footing inspections with dynamic cone penetrometer, and inspect rebar
  • Test and work in accordance with Company safety policies
  • Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications
  • Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites
  • Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data

Requirements

  • 5+ years Construction Materials Testing experience either on commercial/industrial construction projects with emphasis on Soils and concrete.
  • ACI Field Level I certification (concrete sampling and field testing)
  • NPDES Red Card
  • ICC Soils or Equivalent
  • ICC Reinforced Concrete or Equivalent
  • ICC Masonry or Equivalent
  • Troxler or equivalent certification
  • Ability to evaluate soil subgrade prior to placement of fill and perform standard soil Proctor and moisture checks
  • Ability to read and understand site grading drawings
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Good driving History
  • Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Excel
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Must pass physical, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate with Associates or BS in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management
  • Fluent in Spanish, Japanese, or Korean
  • Working towards BS in the above or BS in Civil Engineering
  • ICC Fire, ICC Bolting, ICC SteelPre &/or Post-Tensioned Concrete Certification
  • IBC Commercial Building Inspector Certification

Skills

  • Physical Demands: Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
  • Ability to stoop, kneel and to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles
  • Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold
