Construction Materials Technician (Part Time)

Legacy Engineering, P.C., is a small, woman-owned civil engineering firm specializing in land development design, geotechnical services, construction materials testing and inspections along with surveying and consulting. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, we serve clients throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. We are hiring a Construction Field Technician Trainee to join our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team. This is a hands‑on, outdoor position working on active construction sites to help verify that roads, buildings, and infrastructure are built correctly. Both full‑time and part‑time positions are available. No prior testing experience is required — we provide training and pay for industry certifications. This role is a great opportunity for someone interested in starting a career in construction, engineering, or infrastructure inspection.

Responsibilities

• Travel to construction sites in the Fredericksburg region to perform field testing of soil, concrete, and other construction materials
• Work alongside contractors, engineers, and inspectors on active construction projects
• Perform basic field tests using specialized equipment and industry procedures
• Document test results and site observations using a tablet or field reports
• Communicate with project managers and field supervisors regarding testing needs or site conditions
• Maintain and properly use testing equipment while following safety standards

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Interest in construction, engineering, or field work
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift up to 85 pounds and remain active throughout the workday
• Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
• Previous construction experience is helpful but not required
• Opportunity to obtain industry certifications (ACI, VDOT, OSHA, etc.) – training and fees covered by the company

Pay

Compensation range for this position is $18 to $23 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The range is a good‑faith estimate based on the job description; actual salary may vary depending on the selected candidate’s experience.
