Construction Manager - Level 3 (Interconnections Group)

About the role

This role is for a Construction Manager with 10-15 years of experience, focusing on Substation Electrical/Utility Construction. The position is within the Interconnections Group, specializing in Station Civil and Electrical Support, and will be assigned to the EMA region. This is a temp-direct position with a 520-hour conversion period, starting ASAP. Candidates must be local to Dorchester, MA, as the initial work site is in Dorchester (02125). Interviews will be conducted via phone or TEAMS.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for the safe completion of all work efforts; sets safety expectations among peers and subordinates; resolves safety issues; communicates safety lessons learned and promotes continuous learning.
• Manages contract field construction and maintenance activities at transmission and distribution facilities in accordance with approved project documents, engineering practices, laws, and industry standards.
• Coordinates internal and external resources to support project construction.
• Notifies Project Manager and project team of any deviations in safety compliance, environmental compliance, schedule, design, materials, budget, and commissioning.
• Provides daily reports to management on project progress, cost and schedule metrics, procurement issues, safety or environmental concerns, design questions, and potential project impacts.
• Reviews project design and construction documents to ensure constructability and schedule adherence.
• Ensures project schedule and specifications are being adhered to by field personnel and raises concerns as necessary.
• Ensures contractor compliance with Client standards and procedures.
• Ensures adherence to Contractor Safety Standards.
• Reviews project material requirements to identify items not ordered; coordinates delivery of materials to the construction site.
• Conducts onsite construction management briefings and prepares reports reflecting project status, schedule, cost analysis, and project uncertainties.
• Requests and reviews switching; approves written switching instructions.
• Reviews and signs off on contractor timesheets, invoices, and change orders/change management.
• Provides onsite field presence to review contractor work against provided plans.
• Interfaces with the environmental compliance team to ensure environmental/permitting expectations are understood and followed by contractors.
• Interfaces on material management issues and with contractors to determine field material and equipment requirements.
• Interfaces with the testing & commissioning manager and provides oversight to the testing & commissioning prime contractor and Owner’s designated Lead Commissioning Engineer(s).
• Interfaces with the stakeholder and outreach coordination team so all non-regulatory commitments are adhered to by contractors.
• Reviews contractor Job Hazard Analyses and identifies safety concerns in the field if they arise.
• Reviews and develops safety and work method practices in support of construction and maintenance activities.
• Participates in or leads safety and operational incident investigations as required.
• Establishes accurate and professional communications with customers during a project as required.
• Represents the supervisor in their absence as required.
• Acts as mentor to other department members.
• Provides direction to vendor construction representatives.
• Provides substation escort for non-qualified individuals.
• Resolves scope and field issues.
• Leads construction status meetings.
• Ensures QA/QC of construction activities (e.g., reviewing and signing drill logs and T&M timesheets).
• Attends meetings and project updates with customers as appropriate.
• Responsible for project reconciliations and close-out activities following project completion.
• Works extended hours during certain phases of construction projects as required.
• Serves on-call as required.
• Supports Storm/ERP support as required.
• Clearance role requires the ability to hold clearance from the control center.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years of experience in construction management, with a primary focus on Substation Electrical/Utility Construction.
• Senior-level candidates will be assigned to higher complexity projects and may oversee other Construction Managers.

Pay & Schedule

• Pay Rate Range: $70-80/hr (DOE)
• Work Hours: 7am-4pm ET, Monday-Friday
