About the role

The Construction Manager will maintain a primary focus on practice-related services—management of the delivery of all on-site construction management services for the client—and a secondary focus on internal business operations, including active engagement with business development, financial management, and staff development matters. This role involves significant independent responsibility for assignments, including entire on-site projects, multiple construction projects, or a portion of a project. The Construction Manager should identify opportunities within a project that add value and help successfully accomplish the client’s desired project outcome.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Client and construction/project management team.
  • Deliver projects that meet the client’s goals and outcomes.
  • Serve as liaison with clients and assist with all project-related decisions.
  • Plan, organize, and direct project management functions through all phases of a project—Preconstruction, Construction, and Closeout:
    • Preconstruction: Build the A&E team, manage design, oversee schedule and budget development, conduct constructability reviews, handle contract administration, lead construction bidding and planning, and develop permitting strategy.
    • Construction: Manage the contractor from buyout and procurement to risk management, quality assurance, safety, and overall project execution while maintaining budget and schedule control.
    • Closeout: Manage the closeout process to meet project specifications.
  • Maintain and produce cost and status reports that meet the client’s objectives.
  • Manage and mentor an internal team of project support (Project Engineers and Administrators) or work independently.
  • Contribute to team performance through collaboration and effective communication.
  • Understand the client’s desired project outcomes and identify opportunities to add value.
  • Accomplish other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in construction management, or a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a variety of building types and construction management through all phases of construction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Practical and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong numeracy and financial management skills.
  • Ability to write clear and precise reports and relate complex information to a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to inspire and manage diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Often work in an outdoor environment using computers and standard office machines.
  • Essential physical tasks include:
    • Working on a computer and speaking on a telephone.
    • Working on-site, which may include ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles using feet, legs, hands, and arms (body agility is emphasized).
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May also require:
    • Sitting for extended periods.
    • Standing for long periods.
    • Walking, carrying, pushing, stooping, crouching, and pulling.
