Construction Manager

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee all construction field-related activities. This position is responsible for ensuring that cost, schedule, and quality standards are met. Key responsibilities include recruiting and training field personnel, scheduling and directing tasks, managing construction activities, enforcing safety standards, and evaluating community schedules.

  • Recruit, actively communicate, and train field personnel regarding construction processes, safety, quality requirements, company policies and procedures
  • Schedule and direct tasks necessary for all phases of construction
  • Manage and supervise construction activities either directly or through utilizing the Construction Area Managers, Project Managers, General Superintendents, and Superintendents
  • Ensure the Construction Department is meeting all safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations
  • Oversee field operations, production times, and ensure quality control so the homes built meet company standards and are ready for homeowner orientation/occupancy
  • Set build times on each plan and provide schedules to meet the build times
  • Review all architectural plans prior to first-time builds at each community
  • Grant final approval on all architectural changes
  • Take immediate action, including adjusting the construction process or shutting down work, if necessary, to achieve a safe working environment and comply with requirements
  • Evaluate community schedules to update and determine appropriate modifications to schedules and resources to reflect community's needs as they arise to ensure timely completion
  • Interface, when necessary, with public agencies, municipal governing bodies, public utilities, and industry associations in obtaining permits and approvals
  • Visit job sites to check quality and policy enforcement
  • Review performance of all trade partners
  • Review survey cards for construction and customer service to direct quality improvement efforts
  • Develop and control the departmental overhead budget
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least ten years related experience and/or training
  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
  • High degree of construction knowledge and management skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules
  • General knowledge of municipal permitting, regulations, and building codes
  • Ability to converse with customers, all levels of management, and personnel
  • Superb interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Ability to control cost overruns and manage a budget
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred
  • English/Spanish bilingual skills a plus
