About the role

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee all construction field-related activities, ensuring cost, schedule, and quality standards are met. The role involves establishing construction scheduling, field policies, and procedures, as well as maintaining safety and appearance across community job sites. The Construction Manager will interface with all departments to achieve division goals.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and actively communicate with field personnel regarding construction processes, safety, quality requirements, company policies, and procedures.
  • Schedule and direct tasks necessary for all phases of construction.
  • Manage and supervise construction activities directly or through Construction Area Managers, Project Managers, General Superintendents, and Superintendents.
  • Ensure the Construction Department meets all safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations.
  • Oversee field operations, production times, and quality control to ensure homes meet company standards and are ready for homeowner orientation/occupancy.
  • Set build times on each plan and provide schedules to meet those build times.
  • Review all architectural plans prior to first-time builds at each community and grant final approval on architectural changes.
  • Take immediate action, including adjusting processes or shutting down work, to maintain a safe working environment and comply with requirements.
  • Evaluate and modify community schedules to reflect changing needs and ensure timely completion.
  • Interface with public agencies, municipal governing bodies, public utilities, and industry associations to obtain permits and approvals.
  • Visit job sites to check quality and policy enforcement.
  • Review performance of all trade partners.
  • Review survey cards for construction and customer service to direct quality improvement efforts.
  • Develop and control the departmental overhead budget.
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase company goodwill and profit.
  • Travel overnight as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises 2 or more employees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ten years of related experience and/or training.
  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • High degree of construction knowledge and management skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
  • General knowledge of municipal permitting, regulations, and building codes.
  • Ability to converse with customers, all levels of management, and personnel.
  • Superb interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to control cost overruns and manage a budget.
  • Ability to utilize DRH Construction applications on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure and high-production environment.
  • English/Spanish bilingual skills.
