Day-to-day Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day field management and oversight of active construction projects including roadway rehabilitation, streetscape improvements, interchange construction, and utility infrastructure.
- Maintain compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and safety requirements.
- Manage and coordinate field inspection staff, ensuring adequate coverage and quality of inspection activities.
- Review and process contractor submittals, RFIs, daily reports, change order requests, and progress pay estimates.
- Conduct and document pre-construction conferences, weekly progress meetings, and final inspections/walk-throughs.
- Cook up and coordinate with utility companies, permitting agencies, traffic management teams, and adjacent property owners to resolve field conflicts.
- Identify potential schedule impacts, cost overruns, and constructability issues; recommend corrective actions to the project team.
- Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA safety standards, Caltrans construction procedures, and agency-specific protocols.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation through construction closeout, including punchlists and as-built verification.
Desired Skills And Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in construction management on public works or transportation infrastructure projects in California.
- Extensive knowledge of Caltrans construction standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Experience managing roadway, streetscape, interchange, and/or utility construction projects for public agencies.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, contract administration, and claims avoidance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Excellent field leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with construction management documentation tools and Microsoft Office.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
