McGuire and Hester is a comprehensive sitework construction company with over 100 years of experience in Northern California. We provide a wide range of services including pipeline, grading, paving, concrete, landscape, and mechanical work.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks involving physical labor at building, highway, and heavy construction projects, tunnel and shaft excavations, and demolition sites.
- Operate hand and power tools such as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment.
- Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support sides of excavation, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove asbestos, lead, and other hazardous waste materials.
- Communicate with foremen, project superintendents, and general superintendents.
Requirements
- Must be a member of the applicable union or willing and eligible to join the union as a condition of employment.
- Ability to work in a quick-paced, safety-oriented team environment.
- Willingness to follow detailed instructions from leadership.
- Experience working with hand and/or power tools to perform a range of landscape or irrigation duties.
- Ability to dig and clean trenches for irrigation and drainage systems.
- Install pipe, valves, control wire, sprinklers, and drip irrigation systems.
- Place and prepare soil with amendments and fertilizers.
- Rake and fine grade prepared planting soil.
- Plant trees and shrubs including tree staking and guying.
- Sod lawn preparation and installation.
- Able to safely work near and around heavy construction equipment and in proximity to automobile traffic.
- Able to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 lbs of weight.
- Perform general physical activities that may include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stopping, or kneeling.
- Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
- Maintain a safety-first culture and actively participate in the "Safety Buck" program.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Understanding of English as associated with the jobsite safety and the typical duties required of this position.
- Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
- Deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- No computer skills required.
- Ability to solve conflict, create team atmosphere, be dependable, and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
