Construction Intern
Job Summary
Newcomb and Company is hiring a construction intern to work alongside Project Managers in the construction division.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assemble plans, specs, and due dates for projects that will be bid.
- Contact suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to request pricing.
- Take off materials and equipment from plans and utilize Autobid estimating software to take off ductwork and piping.
- Absorb and prepare project estimates and proposals.
- Absorb and prepare project quantification, ordering, and purchasing of miscellaneous sheet metal and piping materials.
- Absorb and prepare and assemble shop drawings and submittals.
- Absorb and prepare JIF (Job Initialization Form) to communicate project scope information to project managers and field personnel.
- Absorb and verify that all current plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and installation instructions are accurate and in project packages for field crews.
- Absorb and attend job progress meetings to notify superintendent, foremen, or mechanic of status of work and schedule.
- Absorb and coordinate material and equipment deliveries with superintendents, foremen, mechanics, suppliers, warehouse, and sheet metal shop.
- Absorb and assist with coordinating project needs to maintain piping and sheet metal labor productivity.
- Absorb and walk projects to verify installation is according to plans, specifications, and installation instructions for equipment.
- Absorb and assist construction administrative staff in assembling final closeout documents such as test and balance reports, O&M manuals, as-built drawings, etc.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate, support, and work closely with team members and customers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Physical Demands
- Ability to perform additional physical activities that require considerable use of limbs and appendages such as climbing, lifting, reaching above shoulders, balancing, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
- Ability to lift, move and handle 50 lbs. tools or materials.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, aerial lifts, or scaffolding.
- Ability to work in tight spaces or uneven terrain.
- Ability to work in environmental conditions that range from working outdoors during all seasons, indoor office environments, and utility plants.
