Construction Inspector, Senior

Essential Functions

• Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers
• Confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities
• Organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work
• Maintains status of work in progress and inspects completed work
• Convenes with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise
• Assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment
• Affords supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations

Functions Conducted

• Conducts inspections and project oversight for a broad range of construction and maintenance projects
• Coordinates and oversees contractors engaged in construction projects on behalf of the County
• Schedules and coordinates inspections and meetings with County departments and other state and federal agencies
• Anticipates, prioritizes, and times inspections to minimize interference with project progress
• Provides guidance in unique construction situations
• Negotiates and resolves discrepancies with contractors
• Collaborates with superintendents, work crews, utility companies, EPA, GDOT, Corps of Engineers, and other agencies to coordinate work

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required
• Five years of experience in construction inspection, construction project management, civil engineering, or public works construction to include lead or supervisory experience
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license
• Select positions require Water and Wastewater Systems Operator Licenses
• Select positions require Class A CDL
• Select positions require Georgia Soil and Erosion Level 1B certification
