Construction Inspector (Santa Barbara and Ventura County)

About the role

UNICO Engineering seeks a seasoned Construction Inspector with extensive experience in various infrastructure types such as roadways, paving, structures, curb, gutter, sidewalk, underground utilities, earthwork, and more. The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of relevant experience, a thorough understanding of plans and specifications, Caltrans and local agency requirements, and a strong background in bridge construction inspection.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily inspections and complete documentation including daily reports, project photographs, etc.
• Cook with clients/owners, other consultants, contractors, materials testers and others involved with the project.
• Aid Resident Engineers and provide input on project schedule, extra work bills, potential change orders, and communication with businesses and residents.
• Read and interpret project plans and specifications.
• Monitor construction for compliance with project documents including collecting and checking material tags and certificates of compliance.
• Inspect road and bridge construction (based on Caltrans Standards), including checking grades, formwork, rebar placement, concrete batch tickets, curing method, etc.
• Communicate with project team members and provide recommendations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Excellent communication skills
• Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
• Ability to use computer to complete project documentation
• Thorough understanding of CAL OSHA practices and procedures
• Bridge construction inspection experience required
• Knowledge of Caltrans procedures and standards highly preferred
• Ability to pass a pre employment drug screening
• Clean Drivers license and DMV record required

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience for transportation, structures and utility projects
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a construction inspectors’ capacity
• High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred)

Skills

• Knowledge of Caltrans procedures and standards
• Bridge construction inspection experience
• Thorough understanding of plans and specifications
• Ability to pass a pre employment drug screening
• Clean Drivers license and DMV record
