Construction Inspector - Phoenix (Field Based)

About The Role

Brown and Caldwell is seeking a Construction Inspector to support infrastructure projects through field observation, documentation, and coordination. This role helps ensure construction work complies with approved plans, specifications, codes, and permits. The position supports a range of inspection activities including site inspections, daily reporting, and coordination with project teams.

Responsibilities

• Monitor construction work progress and assist in documenting daily activities.
• Perform routine site inspections to support compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and permits.
• Aid in preparing daily reports, including weather, equipment, labor, and construction activities; contribute to monthly reporting.
• Create inspection documentation utilizing varied construction information management systems.
• Support the review and tracking of change orders, invoices, and payment applications under guidance.
• Maintain organized records of construction activities, contingency and field charges.
• Participate in commissioning, testing, and start-up activities under supervision.
• Aid in preparing project documentation and close-out materials.
• Review design and bidding documents for clarity and completeness with support from senior staff.
• Identify and report potential risks or issues in the field to project leads.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to support issue resolution.
• Flexibly adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Skills And Competencies

• Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and applicable codes and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret basic construction plans and specifications.
• Foundational verbal and written communication skills for coordination with project teams.
• Ability to follow inspection protocols and document findings accurately.
• Core knowledge of safety requirements.
• Ability to walk around a construction site of varying size and topography to perform inspections and ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction activities.
• Typical minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in construction inspection or related field is required.
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with water, wastewater, or civil infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with construction management or inspection software.
• OSHA safety training.

• Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
• Mentorship: Provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.
