Construction Inspector I

About the Role

Construction Inspectors spend the majority of their time working on projects performing construction-related inspection requiring specific certifications and/or experience. Inspections may cross multiple disciplines or focus on a specified area of expertise, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and more. Responsibilities include visual/physical inspection and field testing to verify conformance with plans and specifications, as well as preparing inspection reports and collaborating with the project team on solutions to potential issues. Strict adherence to safety standards is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures.
• Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
• Has experience and proficiency in multiple areas of field testing and inspections.
• May train lower-level technicians and lead the activities of other engineering technicians on larger field projects.
• Arrives at project sites in a timely manner and submits clear, accurate documentation of findings and results daily.
• Communicates regularly with dispatcher, project manager, and contractor.
• Progressively takes on increased training and responsibility in work assignments.
• Maintains assigned equipment and vehicle in clean working order.
• Follows safety rules and practices, including pre-task planning and reporting safety issues to management.
• Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
• Minimum 2-4 years’ experience as an Engineering Technician or other applicable experience.
• 1 year of experience in construction inspection preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I certification.
• WAQTC certification.
• Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation (preferred).
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

Preferred Certifications

• ICC certification in two or more of the following categories:
  • Reinforced Concrete
  • Spray-applied Fireproofing
  • Structural Masonry
  • Structural Steel – Bolting
  • Structural Steel - Welding
• ACI Masonry
• PTI Post-Tensioned Concrete
• Floor Flatness
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
