About the Role

Wallace Montgomery is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our team and project in Culpeper, Virginia. Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects, performing tests on soils and materials. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer, with day-to-day direction often provided by a client's direct employee. Inspectors may be entry-level or senior and must be available to travel and work anywhere in the state as assignments require. Inspectors must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to work night shifts when required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs field inspections of construction and maintenance projects, including existing roadways, structures, and facilities.
  • Conducts and/or observes and documents tests on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products, and industrial coatings.
  • Responds to data requests.
  • Participates in traffic control activities.
  • Completes required VDOT certifications, including:
    • Soil and Aggregate Compaction
    • Asphalt Field Level I & II
    • Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field
    • Pavement Marking
    • Slurry Surfacing
    • Flagger Certification
    • Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection
    • Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification
    • Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control
    • GRIT (Guardrail Certification)
  • Obtains Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and the 10-Hour OSHA Safety Training.
  • Fills out the Inspector's Daily Report (IDR) to memorialize all labor, equipment, and materials used on the project each day.
  • Maintains daily progress photos of the work.
  • Completes Force Account records for unresolved changes requiring immediate work.
  • Maintains a Sketchbook containing construction documentation.
  • Participates in the reconciliation of pay quantities on progress payments submitted by the Contractor.
  • Attends meetings as needed, including change order negotiations and CPM schedule meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • VDOT experience or certifications preferred.
