Construction Inspector-Aviation
Position Summary
The Construction Inspector performs detailed inspections, provides recommendations, completes administrative tasks, and coordinates inspection activities for airport construction, building renovations, maintenance projects, and other capital improvement projects. They ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, building codes, contract requirements, and applicable safety regulations while serving as a mentor to other inspection staff.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform construction inspection services on multiple or complex projects within an international airport facility.
- Conduct ongoing construction inspections, quality assurance reviews, and specialty inspections.
- Review contractor work, inspect delivered materials, and verify material certifications.
- Ensure compliance with approved construction documents, specifications, contract requirements, applicable building codes, and safety regulations.
- Record daily observations and document non-compliance issues.
- Coverage and verify field sign of construction materials.
- Review and approve contractor pay applications.
- Review contractor quality control plans, safety manuals, and procedures.
- Perform daily safety inspections and monitor compliance with safety requirements.
- Review construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and contractor submittals for constructability and compliance.
- Perform physical inspections of construction activities, including concrete, buildings, electrical systems, HVAC systems, insulation, and related disciplines.
- Provide recommendations and technical guidance regarding construction quality and compliance.
- Mentor and assist junior construction inspection staff.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including management, clients, contractors, vendors, coworkers, and airport personnel.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and inspection records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Basic Qualifications: High school diploma is required or GED with a minimum of 8 years of construction inspection experience. Alternatively, an Associate degree (two-year degree)/Technical Training degree (two years of training) in construction management, engineering, or related field, along with 6 years’ experience in construction inspection. Or, a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, plus 4 years of relevant experience.
- Experience performing inspections of construction activities, including concrete, buildings, electrical systems, electrical, HVAC systems, and insulation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a time-conscious and efficient manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in airport operations and construction.
- Five (5) years of experience working specifically as a Quality Inspector.
- Experience with concrete construction, including pre-placement inspections (forms, embeds, and reinforcing steel) and concrete placement activities.
- Five (5) years of experience working specifically as a Quality Inspector.
- Certification from a recognized inspection, construction, or quality authority preferred.
- State certifications in materials sing and safety certifications preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows-based applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
