Construction Inspector

About the role

Mott MacDonald, a global engineering, management and development services firm, is seeking a Construction Inspector for its Charleston, WV office. The role provides construction oversight, documents daily activities, and coordinates with project engineers and contractors on local projects throughout West Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Observe construction to ensure work complies with approved contract documents, plans, and specifications.
• Perform full‑time observation of construction activities and support documentation processes.
• Prepare detailed electronic Daily Reports recording daily activities for client submission.
• Provide site support for on‑site engineering subcontractors.
• Adhere to all Mott MacDonald and client safety protocols and monitor unsafe actions.
• Recognize and document potential project issues.
• Monitor all on‑site activities and represent Mott MacDonald and the client professionally.
• Act as a liaison with customers and the public, maintaining the highest quality standards.
• Acquire temporary construction easements (TCE) and rights of way (ROW) as directed.
• Operate GPS equipment for project data capture.
• Operate a motor vehicle for business purposes.
• Travel overnight as required.

Candidate Specifications

• Understanding of contract documents, plans, and specifications with strong communication skills.
• Familiarity with shop drawings, material specifications, mechanical operations, basic construction and process knowledge.
• Knowledge of construction products, materials, equipment, inspection and management practices, and safety regulations.
• Experience with GPS and data‑collection devices and software.
• Good organizational skills, self‑motivation, integrity, and a focus on safety.
• High school diploma; interest or experience in inspection on large, multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel to job sites in the region.
