About the role

The purpose of this classification is to conduct inspections and project oversight for construction projects to ensure adherence to applicable codes, regulations, contracts, design specifications, and quality standards. This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts inspections and project oversight for a broad range of construction and maintenance projects, which may include water and wastewater infrastructure, land development, roads, drainage, equipment installation, and other structures and installations.
  • Covers coordination and oversight of contractors engaged in construction projects on behalf of the County; conducts weekly contractor meetings; schedules and coordinates inspections and meetings with County departments and other state and federal agencies; anticipates, prioritizes, and times inspections to minimize interference with project progress; provides guidance in unique construction situations; and negotiates and resolves discrepancies with contractors.
  • Collaborates with superintendents, work crews, utility companies, EPA, GDOT, Corps of Engineers, and other agencies to coordinate work.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required; three years of experience in construction inspection, construction project management, civil engineering, or public works construction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Select positions require Water Distribution Operator or Wastewater Systems Operator Licenses. Select positions require Class A CDL. Select positions require Georgia Soil and Erosion Level 1B certification.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, three years of experience in construction inspection, construction project management, civil engineering, or public works construction, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific licenses or certifications required include a valid Georgia driver’s license, Water Distribution Operator or Wastewater Systems Operator Licenses, Class A CDL, and Georgia Soil and Erosion Level 1B certification.
