Responsibilities

  • Prepare correspondence and maintain official construction site records, including inspection reports and photographs using digital photography and video.
  • Conduct inspections of materials, workmanship, and construction and installation of various systems (such as fire alarm systems, MEP, BAS, civil/structural/geotechnical, elevator, traffic, welding, landscaping, CBP installations, building envelope, testing procedures, mockups) based on an in-depth understanding of the contract documents including the plans and specifications.
  • Review Contractor’s monthly payment requests and recommend payment or rejection of the request and prepare required documentation.
  • Determine merit, calculate construction costs, and perform time impact analyses for change order proposals, support negotiations, and prepare change order documentation.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), manufacturer’s application and installation guidelines.
  • Use computer applications such as electronic project management, CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Primavera 6, and Microsoft Project to monitor project schedules.
  • Use knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry including familiarity with OSHA safety requirements on construction projects.

Requirements

  • At least ten years’ experience inspecting building projects.
  • Experience as a lead inspector/project engineer on at least one project with a value of at least $25 million.
  • Experience as an inspector on at least two design-build projects.
  • Experience as an inspector on at least one project for the US General Services Administration.
  • Experience with reviewing submittals, shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), manufacturer’s application and installation guidelines.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry including a background of familiarity with OSHA safety requirements on construction projects.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or business.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with certification as a Certified Construction Manager by the Construction Management Association of America.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience being an inspector on a land port of entry project.
  • Preference will be given to candidates residing in Northern Maine.
