Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Inspects infrastructure construction
  • Inspects streets, water lines, storm and sanitary sewer installations
  • Ensures compliance with applicable city codes and approved plans
  • Ensures compliance with proper safety standards
  • Captions with contractors
  • Inspects on-site material testing
  • Inspects asphalt and concrete installation
  • Prepares reports and issues written orders for corrective action in construction projects
  • Determines general progress, workmanship and character or the construction and rehabilitation work
  • Inspects quantity and quality of materials for conformity with established requirements
  • Works with the public and other City departments
  • Determines if developers contain soil erosion and other debris on their respective properties
  • Assists contractors and other City staff as needed
  • Performs Other Related Duties

Education And Experience

The person in this position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; additional vocational classes or engineering courses are encouraged. Five (5) years of related work experience is preferred, with a minimum of three (3) strongly recommended. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

  • The person in this position must have the ability to obtain a Missouri CDL Class B with airbrakes, tanker endorsement.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to complete confined space training, competent person training/certification.
  • Vactor truck training, CCTV equipment training and backhoe training are recommended.

  • Knowledge of proper grammar and the use of English in speaking and writing
  • Knowledge of computer options and applications including word processing and excel
  • Knowledge of mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
  • Knowledge of general functions and operations of municipal government
  • Skills in determining work needed from visual inspections
  • Skills in reading and understanding construction plans and specifications
  • Skills in interpreting maps and aerial photographs
  • Skills in explaining complex concepts in layman's terms
  • Skills in coordinating and organizing constituencies working towards common goals
  • Skills in managing large projects with many deadlines
  • Skills in remaining courteous with public
  • Skills in organizational skills
  • Skills in using various types of office equipment
  • Skills in preparing written informative material relating to activities
  • Skills in paying attention to detail
  • Skills in working autonomously
